About

Blues, honky tonk, and melancholic country probably aren’t the first things people anywhere would associate with the mountains of Austria. But that is exactly what the audience can expect when Chris Comper hits the stage as Prinz Grizzley.

He performs music from the heart. A heart heavily influenced by “mountains, forests, stubbornness, warmth of heart, religiosity and part of a very simple life”. It is a mix of Austrian alpine culture expressed through the sounds of Americana. It isn’t too surprising that it works. There has been a long standing tradition in the US of absorbing aspects of immigrant culture and building it back into the sounds that would eventually become so iconic. Now it’s possible for that process to be reversed and for the result to feel just as organic. Heartbreak, loneliness, and melancholy are universal experiences that just happen to be enhanced by a certain honky-tonk swing, the sound of a pedal steel guitar, or a voice from someone who has just seen too much.

Prinz Grizzley, the embodiment of Alt-Country, Americana, Blues, and Folk within the heart of Austria's majestic mountains, continues to captivate and charm audiences far beyond the Alpine slopes. Chris Comper, the soul behind Prinz Grizzley, brings to the stage a unique blend of music deeply rooted in the essence of “mountains, forests, stubbornness, warmth of heart, religiosity, and part of a very simple life.”.

Over the years, Prinz Grizzley has gifted the world with an EP 'Wide Open Country' (2016) and two acclaimed full-length albums: 'Come on in' (2018) and 'To my green mountains home' (2020, produced by Beau Bedford). Alongside these releases, Grizzley has built a formidable presence on the live music scene, gracing festivals and tours across Ireland, England, Germany, Sweden and Italy with his deeply resonant performances. Notably, in 2018, Prinz Grizzley shone on US stages, including SXSW in Austin, Texas, the AmericanaFest in Nashville and the Folk Alliance International in 2024, further solidifying his place in the global music community as the support act for Seasick Steve’s "Can u cook" tour across Europe and the UK.

Forging ahead, Prinz Grizzley embarks on new musical adventures with the announcement of his latest album, "Dear Leftovers," set for release in 2024. This self-produced record draws from the myriad of experiences gained from life on the road, distilling the essence of universal themes into melodies that touch the soul. "Dear Leftovers" promises to be an intimate reflection of Prinz Grizzley's journey, encapsulating the warmth, heartache, and resilience that define the human experience.

Prinz Grizzley remains a beacon for those who find solace in the raw honesty of Americana, a voice for the voiceless, and a bridge between the boundless landscapes of folk and country music. Join us as we embark on this next chapter, where "Dear Leftovers" promises to resonate with both new and old fans alike.
